To help protect elderly, infirm, or those recovering from catastrophic injury from falls, or in some cases, unsupervised wandering medical alert systems are used by hospitals and other healthcare facilities to monitor at risk patients. These alert systems consist of sensor pads and central or remote monitoring units. Visual or audible alerts are triggered when a patient moves in such a way as to alter the pressure on the sensor pad.
