The head and foot sections can be raised or lowered simultaneously or independently with a single hand control, making the Patriot Homecare Bed simple yet functional. If a power failure occurs, a 9V battery can lower the Full-Electric Bed. The Lumex Patriot operates using a quiet and smoothly-operating DC motor. The motor is pre-installed on the foot section and is protected by a welded motor-guard. The Electric Adjustable Bed's frame and motor weigh only 178 lbs when assembled from its five components.

The grid deck of the Medical Bed offers many advantages over spring frames. The Lumex Homecare Bed will not sag or bottom out, even when used by heavier patients. The total weight capacity of the Patriot frame for the mattress, rails, and patient is 450 lbs. There are no external pinch points to injure patients either while resting or while the bed is in motion. The Electric Bed also has no links or springs which are hard to clean, but easy to lose.

The Patriot Healthcare Bed includes a reversible mattress. The Lumex Medical Bed is available with several different rail types, which fit into slots in the metal bedframe. The Lumex Patriot Bed offers a choice of bed-ends made of either decorative walnut fiberboard or high-impact plastic. The bed-ends are held in place with locking pins, which are tethered to the frame with lanyards to prevent loss.

The FDA rail options have smaller gaps between bars to prevent patient entanglement. There is also a 4 in extension kit available to fit the head and/or foot of the bed - See accessories below.
