Ohio Medical Intermittent Suction Unit (ISU) is a combination continuous and intermittent regulator for use with hospital pipeline vacuum systems. It provides the versatility of an intermittent mode for nasogastric drainage. Regulated adult gauge range increments from 0-200 mmHg. In the intermittent mode, the unit uses a pneumatic logic device to alternately turn the suction "ON" and "OFF". This unique Unilogic Module provides quiet and reliable controlled intermittent suction. The unit is equipped with independent controls to adjust the duration of the "ON" and "OFF" cycles, the level of vacuum, and the rate of flow. The regulator also provides continuous vacuum, adjustable over the full range of available vacuum, to meet all clinical continuous suction requirements.
During use, as the flow requirement increases, the valve automatically opens to maintain suction at the preset level. Conversely, when the flow requirement decreases, the valve automatically closes to maintain suction at the pre-set level. The same mechanism compensates for changes in supply vacuum to automatically maintain the pre-set suction level.
When it is used, both the "On" and "Off" timing cycles are independently adjustable within a range of 3 to 30 seconds. These are pre-set at the factory at a supply vacuum of 500 mmHg (66.7 kPa) to provide approximately 15 seconds "On" and 8 seconds "Off" for the ISU. If the supply vacuum is different, the timing cycles will vary.
