The Welch Allyn VS100S-B Spot Vision Screener is a handheld, portable device designed to help quickly and easily detect vision issues on patients from 6 months of age through adult. It can be used for vision screening or autorefraction.

Portable screening: Spot Vision Screener isa portable, handheld device which can be used in virtually any indoor environment to measure visual abilities and refraction in subjects of almost any age (six months and older). It allows for healthcare professionals to quickly and efficiently scan patients' eyes for a range of vision issues from a distance with a success rate of 97%, reducing patient stress and allowing for small children or uncooperative patients to be scanned easily. A combination of lights and sounds are used to engage children, making the scanning process even simpler. Spot also significantly reduces the time taken to screen large groups - for example, large school classes can be in a matter of hours as opposed to the several days traditional screening methods require. When fully charged, its battery is adequately powered for mass screening events.

Comprehensive scans: Spot Vision Screener supports AAP screening guidelines for the early detection of a range of vision disorders, including risk factors for amblyopia, allowing for intervention including corrective surgery where necessary. This device also scans for indicators of myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, anisometropia, strabismus and anisocoria, and indicates where referral to an ophthalmologist or other eye care specialist is necessary. All patients can be tested, regardless of age, eye color or other common limitations to successful screening.

User-friendly with excellent connectivity: Spot can store patient data, allowing practitioners to track the process of individuals, or be used without any patient data for large screening events. Results are displayed on a full-color touch screen and the device is WiFi enabled, which facilitates wireless printing and easy data export. The user-friendly interface is intuitive and requires minimal training.

Leading technology: Spot uses automated screening for thorough, objective results which are easy to read and understand. It can be used for instant binocular or monocular refraction readings, horizontal and vertical eye alignment, pupil size and papillary distance measurements. Additionally, it is configurable to plus and minus cylinder conventions. The device alerts you to the appropriate screening distance for efficient capture of refraction, and notifies you if the subject's pupil are too small and environmental changes are required. Following successful screening, it alerts you to potential vision issues for monitoring or treatment: if measurements are out of range, it recommends referral to a specialist (The VS100 is not designed to render 20/20 or 20/30 reading visual acuity. A complete eye examination would be needed to do that. The VS100 is a vision screener that alerts patients to the need for a complete eye examination).
