FYI. I ordered all of my start-up equipment from this company, Claflin Equipment, when I opened my office 2 1/2 years ago. They have just about everything necessary to start and maintain an office.

Since then, I have found no other organization remotely close to providing outstanding customer service, excellent and fully transparent pricing inclusive of shipping costs, timely delivery, etc. In my experience, that level of service to a solo practitioner is an exception to the rule. This is why I bring the company to your attention.

You may want to keep their information handy for any practitioners/groups within the IPA seeking assistance, especially any practitioners setting up a new office.

We can talk about possibly mentioning them in the next IPA newsletter or building a relationship, when we chat at the next board meeting. I have other ideas on how the IPA can provide more balance in managing accounts payable in addition to receivables, with primary focus on product and service quality.

The web site, claflinequip.com, serves as a reference guide when staff needs something but wants to view their options in that category. So much time is saved for Material personnel as their requirements are identified and the search is narrowed. Pricing is always aggressive and delivery times honestly quoted. On our physician's recommendation, we realized that we needed to purchase a home blood pressure monitor. I did my homework, and determined that the top three candidate models were the Omron HEM-711AC, the Lifesource UA-787V, and the Welch Allyn OSZ5. But, beyond narrowing the search to those three, I could find no rational basis to select among them. I called the Claflin toll free number (1-800-338-2372). Good news is worth repeating.

It’s easy for the good things we do, and the talented people we work with, to somehow get noticed less than the things that did not go as planned: the tragedies, disasters , and near misses. Good news generally doesn’t make headlines. If it bleeds it leads, is now standard practice from the daily papers to the nightly news. As a culture, and as a profession, we need to find better ways promote the positive .

During our meeting last October we made special note of a Materials Professional and Business partner; a person and an enterprise that exemplify high quality, professional standards. At that meeting we presented those awards to two people. The first award, "The Dan Brady Award for Excellence in Materials Management " was presented to Tom Wright, Vice President of Materiel Services at Yankee Alliance. Tom has been actively involved in NESHMM for more years than he probably cares to admit. He was a panelist at a NESHMM meeting earlier in the year, last year, and is a good, positive example of the kind of person who meets the criteria established for that award.

We also presented the Business Partner of the Year award to the Claflin Company. In a world of mega merges, giant corporate entities, and strategies based on quarterly earning statements, Claflin has focused on providing customer benefit, and personal service, while maintaining profitability. Mike Abbott accepted the award for the Claflin Company.

Please join the NESHMM board in recognizing Tom and Mike for their positive contributions and good work.
